A lawyer who had done everything he could to dodge military service and worked as a kindergarten teacher went to the Ukrainian embassy himself in 2022 to ask to be sent to the front. Now two vehicles used by Vladislav’s reconnaissance group have broken down, and they need to be repaired before winter.
My name is Vladislav Solovey, call sign Sonya. I have a law degree and always considered myself a pacifist: I did everything I could to dodge military service. In 2020, I worked as a kindergarten teacher in Drozdy. One day, I brought a white-red-white flag to the group, and the children started saying that they had one just like it at home. In August, I went out to protest, ended up in Okrestina, and never returned to the kindergarten.
When the full-scale war began, I went to the Ukrainian embassy in Warsaw and said directly through the intercom: “I am a Belarusian citizen and I want to serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.” I was given my call sign at the training camp after I overslept and missed the first formation. Since then, Ukraine has become my second home. I now serve in a reconnaissance group alongside my brothers-in-arms.
In the summer, we already raised funds from you for a vehicle for our group. You helped, and it is now in the sector, where the guys use it to carry out their tasks. Thank you to everyone who helped back then!
Now two more vehicles have broken down. One has an engine problem, while the other has issues with its suspension and electronics. Both also need winter tyres. Without vehicles, we cannot get to the places where we operate or transport equipment. And in winter, in mud and icy conditions, every trip in a faulty vehicle on summer tyres becomes more dangerous.
That is why we are launching this fundraising campaing to get both vehicles back on the road before winter. This is the bare minimum we cannot do without. If the repairs cost more, we will cover the rest ourselves. But we cannot manage quickly without your help, and there is less and less time before winter.
If you cannot donate, please share the fundraiser with your friends. Sometimes a single repost reaches someone who can cover most of the target.
I will be honest: sometimes I am afraid. But for me, this war will only end when I return home, to a free Belarus.
