Helping a former political prisoner who was convicted of having body tattoos “insulting to the president”

  • Story

In May 2022, I was detained right on the street. The reason for my detention was that they wanted to question me as a suspect in a case of anti-war graffiti on the street where I lived.

During the interrogation, the law enforcement officers saw that my body was covered in tattoos. After looking at some of them, they thought that I was insulting the president of Belarus with my appearance. This led to a criminal case against me under article 368 part 1 of the Criminal Code. 1.

For two months I had to serve my sentence in Hrodna pre-trial detention center. Under the circumstances they found out, the case was closed due to the expiry of the statute of limitations. However, when they released me from the detention center, they warned me that the case could be resumed.

And so it happened. Two months later I was called and summoned to the Investigative Committee. After that I left the country within hours without even packing my things. Now I'm in Warsaw. I need help in finding a flat and a job, and I will be very grateful to anyone who will show solidarity.

How much is needed?
