Support for a Belarusian volunteer fighter returning from the front

  • Story

A Belarusian who defended Ukraine for three years as part of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment has found himself in Poland without a job or savings. He went through the hottest spots of the war and now needs support to get back on his feet in civilian life.

I am from Mahilioŭ. From the first days of 2020, I took part in the protests against the regime. For that, I was detained three times, and in the autumn of 2021, I lost my job at Beltelecom and was forced to leave the country.

When the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began (including from the territory of Belarus), I decided to defend its freedom. As Vereshchagin said in the film White Sun of the Desert: “It pains me for the State.”

From March 2022 to April 2025, I served in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment. During this time, I went through Mykolaiv, Lysychansk, Huliaipole, Bakhmut, Kupiansk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia — cities that became symbols of fierce resistance. These were years of hard but conscious struggle.

In August 2025, I moved to Poland to start a new life. Now I am processing all the necessary documents and permits, but for the moment, I have no job and no financial reserves. I need temporary support to cover housing, food, and basic necessities for the coming months.

My story is not unique. This is the new reality for many Belarusians who stood on the side of freedom. Now I am asking for help to get back on my feet and begin the next chapter of my life.
