For taking part in the protests, the entire family of Alexandra* was convicted, and her children were forced to leave the country. Due to her age, the woman could not emigrate and has been left completely alone.
My name is Alexandra*, I am a retiree. In 2020, together with my family, I joined the protests – we peacefully demanded change. Some time later, they started “coming for us.” First, my children were convicted under political articles (they had to leave Belarus), and then I was detained.
Recently, the court sentenced me to 2.5 years of home confinement. Hoping to get a lighter sentence, I hired a lawyer. Unfortunately, it did not change the court’s decision, but it cost a lot of money, and I had to go into debt and take out loans.
Now I am serving my home confinement term and cannot leave the country because of my age. My children are abroad, and I have been left completely alone. I no longer have family support nearby or the ability to cope with difficulties on my own. On top of that, I recently developed a suspected thyroid cancer. I have upcoming medical tests and treatment that will require significant funds.
This fundraiser is to help pay off debts for the lawyer and loans, as well as to cover basic living expenses for some time: food, medicines, utilities, and medical treatment. This support is crucial, at least for the first period, so that I can stay afloat.
Any support means a lot to me. Thank you to everyone who responds. Even a small contribution or simply paying attention to my story makes a huge difference to me.
