Financial assistance to a political refugee

  • Story

Hello, my name is Alexey Sopin.

In 2017, I took part in the “Marches of No-Neglect”. In 2020 I took part in the post-election protests in Belarus.

In 2021, the police detained me because my phone was spotted on one of the marches. At first I was given 15 days for “disobedience”. Later, a criminal case was opened because of a comment found on my phone.

I was sentenced: 2 years of “home chemistry.” This is a type of punishment in which the convicted person remains at liberty, but with restrictions. While serving it, I was placed in a temporary detention center several times for violations.

Realizing that “home chemistry” could be replaced by real imprisonment, I asked BYSOL to evacuate me. The team did an excellent job despite my travel ban. Many thanks to them!

Now I am in Poland. I worked various jobs to pay off my debts and save up for international protection. I managed to pay off my debts, but I was not paid my last month's salary.

After applying for international protection, I lost the right to an official job. This can last from four months to a year. Now I am in a refugee camp. The conditions here are acceptable, but I have no money. I need funds for winter clothes, shoes and some household needs.

How much is needed?

€912

€150 for winter clothes and shoes
€200 for living expenses
€562 — room payment for 3 months

The collection is over. Сollected:
€ 957
