Helping a political prisoner forced to flee the country with minimal resources

  • Story

On August 9, 2020, like every self-respecting Belarusian — I went out to protest the rigged election results. I was standing in a hitch on the road, for which I was arrested a year later — on August 12, 2021. What followed was a tried and tested program: administrative days and a transition to a criminal case. He did time at Volodarskogo until November 24. Then the court sentenced me to 3 years in “chemistry” with a referral. I wrote an appeal, but on March 22nd Minsk District Court upheld the verdict. I decided not to wait for the day of imprisonment.

I left Belarus in order to not to have my term in prison. Recently my own sister died. The funeral cost almost all the family savings. I left the country with a small amount collected by friends. Because of the unstable visa situation, I have to live in a country where everything is very expensive right now. From groceries to housing. For the first couple of months the money should be enough, taking into account the job I found. Renting an apartment costs as much, if not more, than my salary. I would be grateful to anyone who can support me during this first time in a foreign country.

How much is needed?

550€ — rent and food for the first time.
