Helping a former political prisoner who faces pressure again after release

  • Story

I was convicted for commenting on the internet because I related to the events happening in the country in a non-indifferent way. For this I was sentenced to two years of “chemo” with a referral.

My wife was on maternity leave when I was detained and sent to serve my “chemo. At home they took up with my wife: they started checking her, interrogating her and tapping her phone. Thank God everything turned out well and only I was convicted. In chemistry they kept a close eye on me. They justified everything by “regime violations” and sent me to prison.

I served my full sentence, but after I was released the police became interested in me again. Now they come to my house and regularly check up on me. They put me on the register. Now I officially have to come to the police once a month.

All attempts to find a job turn against me, because the employers in Belarus are afraid of those who were previously convicted for political offenses. My wife and I decided we had to build a new life in another country. At the moment we need money to move and to settle down in our new place of residence. We would be very grateful for any help from concerned people!
