“I Realised You Cannot Beg for Freedom with Flowers” — Belarusian Volunteer Asks for Help for His Group

  • Story

Vladislav is raising €10,000 for a vehicle for the reconnaissance group he commands.

My name is Vladislav Solovey, call sign “Sonya.”

In Belarus, I worked as a lawyer. But in 2020, I joined the protests, was arrested, and ended up in the Minsk temporary detention facility. There, in a cramped cell, surrounded by screams and pain, I realised that you cannot beg for freedom with flowers.

I had never served in the army and had never even held a weapon in my hands. But when the full-scale war began, together with other Belarusians I went to Ukraine, and in the winter of 2022 I began my combat path as part of the Kastus Kalinouski Regiment.

At first, I was a machine gunner. Then I became the commander of an infantry group in the “Litvin” battalion. Later, I became the commander of a reconnaissance group. Over these years, war has become a part of me.

Today, war no longer looks the way it did in 2022. Drones have changed everything. But despite the new technologies, one thing remains constant – vehicles. Ordinary civilian cars save lives every day. They transport fighters to positions, evacuate the wounded, and deliver drones, generators, medicines, water, food, and ammunition to places that even armoured vehicles cannot always reach.

Vehicles at the front operate at the limit of their capabilities under the constant threat of strikes, on destroyed roads and off-road terrain. Without reliable transport, a unit loses its mobility – and therefore its effectiveness and safety.

Right now, our group needs exactly this kind of vehicle: reliable, durable, and ready for difficult frontline work. To purchase and prepare it for the group’s tasks, we need to raise €10,000.

I do not know what the future of Belarus will look like. But I know for certain that we, the Belarusians who are fighting today for the freedom of Ukraine, will one day return home. And when that day comes, we want to return not broken in spirit, but victorious.

But right now, we really need your help. I ask you to make a contribution to the people who have been fighting for freedom for several years already. For the freedom of Ukraine. And for the future of a free Belarus.

Belarus first and foremost!
