Financial assistance to activist Artem Yarmak

  • Story

Hello!
My name is Artem Yarmak. Until 2012, I worked in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In 2020, after the rigged elections, I recorded a video in which I publicly renounced the right to wear the red beret and condemned the brutality of the security forces, as well as the illegality and illegality of their actions in suppressing protests in Belarus.

After that, in August 2021, I was detained on suspicion of terrorism. Do you remember the case of burning down the house of Aleh Haidukevich (from which no one was injured)? So, according to the version of the investigation, I allegedly advised people how and what to do, so that it would definitely catch fire.

After 109 days in the pre-trial detention center, I was released on my own recognizance and the obligation that when the trial starts, I'll appear at it. But I escaped from Belarus. I walked 30 km through the woods, slept at -7°C, fell under the ice in the swamp, but on March 17, 2022, I still reached Lithuania.

Now I live in Vilnius. I work two jobs — at a construction site and as a courier. But the funds are still not enough. That is why I want to return to the activity I was engaged in in Belarus until 2020 — cargo transportation. However, in Europe, to work in this field, it is critical to know English.

I ask for your support to get into good English courses. I also need to improve my health, which is a little bit failing after three and a half months in the pre-trial detention center and my escape from Belarus. I need to get my teeth fixed (it's quite expensive here), which have been neglected for a long time, and a comprehensive health checkup.

How much is needed?

€2000

€1000 — English language courses
€1000 — medical checkup and dentistry
