General fundraising
BYSOL supports released political prisoners and their families, people forced to leave the country, Belarusian volunteers in Ukraine, and initiatives that help Belarusians fight lawlessness in the country.
Two summer months — almost thirty evacuations, four dozen completed personal fundraisers, and hundreds of calls to the “Hotline.” But what lies behind these numbers?
One of the key events of this period was the release of a group of political prisoners, including Siarhei Tsikhanouski. Although the fundraiser in his support has not yet been officially closed, the necessary amount was collected almost instantly. On the day this report was prepared, the counter showed €10,000 against the initial goal of €8,000.
However, support is needed not only by well-known and public figures. Ordinary Belarusians, unaccustomed to interviews and public speaking, need help just as much. The solidarity and empathy of people who donate to strangers is a real phenomenon!
In June and July, we completed 41 fundraisers. Some of them were anonymous, since the recipients are in Belarus. Together we helped a volunteer with the call sign “Yenot” raise funds for a tactical helmet, body armor plates, and tactical headphones — everything that saves lives. We raised money for Valeria, a mother of two children, so she could restore her health. We supported Elena — the wife of a political prisoner, a mother and grandmother of three grandchildren, who are forced to live and grow up away from their homeland, because there is no longer any place for dissenters in Belarus.
Thank you to everyone who became part of this chain of solidarity!
